CAYSTON® (aztreonam for inhalation solution) Dosing and Administration of CAYSTON®
Fast nebulization and flexible dosing
Nebulization typically takes 2-3 minutes, at least 4 hours apart, and 3 times daily. CAYSTON does not need to be refrigerated in the 28 days after the pack has been opened. The Altera® Nebulizer Handset should be cleaned after each use and disinfected before it’s used again.
See below for how CAYSTON can fit into a patient's schedule
Sample Taking CAYSTON
For instance, if your patients take their morning dose of CAYSTON at 7 AM and their evening dose at 9 PM, that leaves them with a 7-hour window of flexibility in which to take their middle dose.
Patients should place the nebulizer on a flat, stable surface and sit in an upright, comfortable position while administering CAYSTON.
Dosage and Administration of CAYSTON
The recommended dose of CAYSTON for both adults and pediatric patients 7 years of age and older is one single-use vial (75 mg of aztreonam) reconstituted with 1 mL of sterile diluent administered 3 times a day for a 28-day course (followed by 28 days off CAYSTON therapy). Dosage is not based on weight or adjusted for age. Doses should be taken at least 4 hours apart.
CAYSTON should be administered immediately after reconstitution using the Altera Nebulizer System and should not be administered with any other nebulizer.
CAYSTON should not be mixed with any other drugs in the Altera Nebulizer Handset.
Patients should use a bronchodilator before administration of CAYSTON.
For patients taking multiple inhaled therapies, the recommended order of administration is as follows: bronchodilator, mucolytics, and lastly, CAYSTON.
For more information, download the CAYSTON Dosing and Administration Guide.
